Our Chapter has been honored several times as the host of the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall. This year from June 15th - June 21st Chapter 528 hosted the Traveling Wall. The following poem "Names" was read during the Opening Ceremony by it's author Cliff Tholen.
He walks and remembers
His pace at a crawl
He remembers the Tet
And Saigon’s sad fall
And cherished lost comrades
And the pain of it all
And 58,000 names on the wall
58,000 names on the wall
American soldiers
That answered a call
And served under hardship
And gave it their all
They won’t be forgotten, enshrined are they all
As 58,000 names on the wall
The war racked his body
But never the pride
Of knowing he served
And how hard he tried
Yet now he can see
That his hurt was so small
Compared to the names he sees on the wall
He can’t reconcile it
Or banish the thought
Of what he’s becoming
Or worse, what he’s not
But looking in judgment
From a Washington mall
Are 58,000 names on the wall
Thanks, Patty, Dennis, Ted and Tom for the photos!
What an impressive display!
